Pacman Ransomware

A ransom-ware called Pacman is gaining momentum.  The attach comes in an email link that appears to be from Dropbox.

If your PC is infected, your files are collected and the attacker gives you only 24 hours to pay the ransom in Bitcoin or risk losing all of the compromised data.

To protect yourself:

  1. Delete Dropbox emails unless you subscribe to a business plan. You should not be storing or sharing company data on a personal Dropbox account.
  2. Delete emails from any unknown sources or known sources that don’t typically email you. Be skeptical. These emails can be very convincing.
  3. If an email appears legitmate, open a separate browser to visit the link directly and delete the email.
  4. Call the alleged source for more info.

You can also ask an IT service provider to block Dropbox from your corporate network.
